History

Forty years ago, Parks Foundation began with a single visionary citizen who dreamed of a greener downtown, as high-rises and parking lots rapidly replaced natural spaces. Since its inception in 1984, we've invested over $250 million into capital projects and supported hundreds of community-led park and sports initiatives.

Parks Foundation works to enrich Calgary’s outdoor landscape, shaping the city’s identity and enhancing quality of life. We strive to leave a lasting legacy of innovative park spaces, vibrant communities, and greater access to nature for all. With hundreds of projects completed, we continue to champion vital yet unfunded park initiatives—places that inspire imagination and foster connections between people and nature.

Our most ambitious project to date, the Rotary/Mattamy Greenway, is a 145-kilometer pathway encircling Calgary, linking nearly half of the city’s population to green spaces and recreational opportunities.
